The Greek government has ceded its mining rights to the Canadian multinational company “Eldorado Gold” for over78,000 acres of land in northern Chalkidiki, a region rich in gold, copper and other metal. However, many of the region’s inhabitants have been resisting gold mine construction for years and maintain that this investment will cause irreparable damage to the environment. Cassandra’s Treasure paints a detailed portrait of the Modern Greek state before and during the financial crisis.
