Synopsis: 

The important tradition of Islamic education in Senegal has grown alarmingly and perversely. Nearly 50,000 Koranic students called “Talibes”, young boys between the age of 4 and 15, are subject to exploitation in conditions close to slavery. They are forced to beg in the streets and suffer from severe physical abuse and negligence. The film follows the local NGO “La Maison de la Gare” and its daily effort to find solutions to the horrible conditions these boys are forced into.

Daniela Kon is an award winning documentary filmmaker specializing in matters dealing with development and humanitarian aid. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, she has worked with humanitarian organizations throughout the world and directed films on the problems of aid and human rights issues.
